Silt/Sediment/Dredging Assessment - FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions - Answers

Q.  Does this assessment require a membership vote?

A.  No. Our By-Laws give the Board of Directors the responsibility to set the assessment based on budgeted expenses for maintenance, improvements and emergency or sinking fund reserve.  The assessment is added to the $25 Dues to make up the total Annual Dues and Assessment amount.  For 2022 the Dues of $25 + the Assessment of $925 = $950.  Last year the Dues of $25 + the Assessment of $685 = $710.

Q.  Why do we have to do anything?

A.  If we don’t take action, the north end of Fishing Cove will continue to fill in with silt and reduce water depths each year.  Eventually, the water depths will be reduced to the point that the area is unnavigable.  The shallow area will expand towards the main body of water every year.

Q.  Why did we sell the dredge?

A.  At the time it was 22 years old, was constantly breaking down, maintenance was costly and replacement parts were obsolete/difficult to find.
